About Pop Art

Poppa-Artzee's custom images are inspired by the Pop Art movement made famous by artist like Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, and Andy Warhol. The distinct style associated with Andy Warhol's works is a particular inspiration for the pet portraits and other images created by Poppa-Artzee.

The Pop Art movement emerged in England in the late 1950s and made its way to the United States during the early and mid-60s. Pop Art artists found inspiration for their paintings, collages and sculptures in familiar images of the popular culture (thus the "pop"), including comic strips, billboards, advertisements, and supermarket products. By depicting and importing into their art comic strips consumer products, road signs, etc. Pop Art artists sought to capture and -- occasionally -- satirize post-war consumerism and materialism. Among the most well known Pop Art images are Roy Lichtenstein's comic book - inspired paintings and Andy Warhol's iconic depictions of Campbell's Tomato Soup cans and multi-panel Marilyn Monroe portraits.
